Step into ROOM14, a fascinating universe full of every day colorful objects dizzily tumbling over each other before your very eyes all vying for attention. These paintings are the result of ERK14’s practice, which is that of seeing an object and from there creating a story, combining it with other objects, where there is always a question and an answer, and drawing to create things that in reality cannot be seen or touched, which is why ERK14’s work is very reminiscent of surrealist painting. In his pictorial style, he simply tries to transform a graphic sign into a pictorial one, with all its rules. Then again he is very aware that artists are standing on the shoulders of giants and likes to think that Italian painters should continue the tradition of painting done in a certain way since he always admired the Greek and Roman art he saw in Pompeii and in the museums of Naples, and everything from the Renaissance to Magritte and Roy Lichtenstein. Immerse yourself in ERK14’s world and let it sweep you off your feet in a space that at the same time exists and doesn’t exist.
This exhibition is curated by Monica Pohlen from Collection M Gallery in Amsterdam.
